The lower back exercises given to riders need to focus on improving joint movement and flexibility but always must include core stability education. Core strength exercises for horseback riders must focus on the stabilization of the spinal joints. Riders are usually less stable in the spine due to the work required from their lumbar back. Horse riderstend to be naturally stiffer, as well because they do not stretch. This is often mistaken for stability by gym instructors and therefore the focus on core strengthening exercises forhorseback ridersis overlooked. Stiffness is not stability.
